Debbie’s excellent work wins a My Home Life Essex Gold Award

The residents adore her and she works tirelessly to help them to enjoy a wide range of activities inside and outside of the home. Such is her effect on the lives of those she cares for that Debbie has received a My Home Life Essex Gold Award and her friends at Corner Lodge laid on a celebration to mark the occasion.

Milli Simalova, the manager of Corner Lodge said:

There aren’t enough superlatives to describe Debbie and what she means to all of us at Corner Lodge. She’s always full of ideas and makes sure that our residents can take part in lots of fun activities from nail care to sherry mornings as well as all the favourites like quizzes and arts and crafts. Also, she makes sure that we make the most of our lovely seaside location by organising outings so that we can enjoy sunny days in Clacton!

My Home Life Essex is part of a national movement that is improving the lives of older people living in residential care homes. The My Home Life Essex Awards Scheme ensures that people who have made a significant contribution to the aims of the My Home Life Essex and/or have achieved personal development through their involvement with the movement receive the recognition they deserve and inspire others. The awards are not competitive and nominations can be made by anyone connected with their work e.g. residents of care homes, families, care teams, local community groups or volunteers.

At her special celebration Debbie received her Gold Certificate from Tom Owen, National Director for My Home Life, and here is her reaction:

I’m delighted to have been recognised for the work I do and it is a pleasure to work with the lovely residents and excellent care team at Corner Lodge. We have a lot of fun and it’s so rewarding to see the joy it brings to the residents. I’m particularly proud of the links I’ve made with the local neighbourhood and we have 10 volunteers who come in and offer brilliant support which makes more things possible, including excursions and activities outside of the home. I’ve been here for three years and still enjoying every day!

Here are a few comments from the residents, their families and colleagues which sum up Debbie’s star quality:

Corner Lodge is a wonderful care home and Debbie makes my Dad’s day!

Debbie always goes the extra mile for my Mum.

She is always happy and smiling and we love her.

Debbie always ensures that residents’ families are kept informed of the entertainment or outings are going on at the home.

What would we do without her?
