We’re proud of our Community Visitors (CVs) who give a few hours every week to brighten the lives of older people living in residential care homes.
Over the coming year we will be extending our great team and we are looking for more volunteers across Essex.
Community Visitors are unpaid volunteers who work in pairs to support a care home to provide the best quality of life for its residents, according to individual needs and preferences. They act as a friend to the residents, their families, their carers and the home manager, offering an independent set of eyes and ears to help the home build on its strengths and change what could be better. CVs are able to add value and act as catalysts for positive improvements, for the benefit of everyone living, working or visiting a care home for older people.
A background in care is not a necessity, just a desire to make a difference to the choices for older people who can no longer live independently. You’ll be assured of a warm welcome and given full training and ongoing support so if you have about half a day a week to offer then why not get in touch and find out more?
Please contact Debbie Tanner or call 0845 017 1095 for an informal chat.
Go to Community Visitors to find out what our volunteers say and here are a few comments:
It’s the feeling that I am making a difference to someone’s life, cheering them up a bit, and that is overwhelming.
It’s the simple things that mean the most.
I love visiting the home, love to see their faces light up, it is so worthwhile.
As I get to know the residents in the care home, and I get a wave from them when I arrive, it gives me a good feeling.
More often than not you find that you gain far more than you give.
