National Pet Month is celebrating its silver anniversary between 1st April and 5th May and we thought that this is a good opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to all of those pets living in or visiting residential care homes in Essex.

We all know the difference that a pet can make with their unconditional love and funny antics but just stop and think about their importance to older people living in care homes who get so much joy in patting a dog or talking to a budgerigar.

Community Visitor Sarah always takes her dog Nuffy with her on her visits to St. Dominic’s Residential Care Home in Kelvedon. Sarah explains:

Nuffy is part of the team now and even has her own name badge! The residents are always pleased to see her and I think she looks forward to her visits as much as me. She gets loads of fuss but plays it cool as if she is used to it every day.
