National Care Home Open Day invites neighbours to become friends
It’s going to be a great day on Friday 20th June when residential care homes across Essex throw open their doors and invite their neighbours to step inside to find out more about what they do to care for older people who can no longer live on their own.
National Care Home Open Day is about connecting care home residents with their communities and changing perceptions about residential care. We’re used to hearing about isolated incidents of poor practice in the media but that doesn’t tell the much bigger story of the excellent care provided for the vast majority of residents who are encouraged to live life to the full.
Care homes can be inspiring places filled with funny and fascinating people who want be in touch with their neighbours to share interests or just have a natter. Their care teams provide much more than just personal care and visitors will be impressed by the range of activities on offer. You can find a care home near you by visiting ‘Find participating homes’.
The My Home Life Essex Community Association is passionate about the value of connecting the residents of care homes with their local communities and excited about the potential of the open day.
Jan Lockyer, FaNs Programme Manager says:
We’re heading a new initiative called Friends and Neighbours (FaNs) which is encouraging people across Essex to link up with their local care home. Everyone has so much to gain and we know that older people don’t want to feel cut off when they move into residential care. They have hobbies and interests that they want to continue and want to enjoy fun time talking and sharing with others. If you’d like to find out more about FaNs please get in touch for an informal chat.
If you are the proprietor or manager of a residential care home in Essex and would like to share news about your open day, either before or after Friday 20th June, do contact Debbie Tanner, Development Officer or call her on 0845 017 1095 as we’d enjoy showcasing your event.
