Wonderful Wanda turns 102!
This is Wanda. On April 10th 2022, Wanda turned102 years old, and Wanda has a story.
Wanda was born in a small town in Poland in 1920. She married Jan, her sweetheart, at the turn of the war. As a pilot Jan was captured by the Russians and imprisoned in Siberia.
Wanda was taken by Nazi Germany and sent to Auschwitz Birkenau.
Wanda survived, and to this today remains one of only a handful of people on the planet still with us who was imprisoned in that terrible place.
Wanda's life and her incredible bravery were honoured with a huge celebration party like she’d never seen before this weekend!
Our Polish community came with ideas on cooking, music and celebrations for this hero of Poland to make this a day to truly remember!
This birthday was one to remember, not just for Wanda and her family, but for liberty and freedom.
