Residents from care homes came together to enjoy a day of cricket!

Cricket at the green

On Sunday, residents from care homes from Colchester to Braintree came along to Eight Ash Green Cricket Club as special guests at the annual FaNs XI cricket match! We were so lucky with the weather, and a good turn out saw our hosts retain the trophy for the third successive year!

Wilfred gets us underway

The highlight was 96 year old cricket fan, Wilfred, who started his cricketing wish by bowling the first ball against FaNs XI’s Jamie, who defiantly blocked it for no run. He’s then off to Essex County Cricket Club to watch the team in a week or so as part of the FaNs #wishingwashingline project, where he's going to be the guest of Essex County Cricket Club for their final home fixture against Lancashire.

Wilfred bowls the ball

Wilfred is a huge cricket fan, and having the honour of bowling the first ball, so many years after he bowled his last, was not lost on him. He was incredibly thankful to be honoured in such a way, and is really looking forward to going as a guest to watch Essex play next week!

And it wasn't all about the cricket either.....

Additional highlights were Tony only scoring 5, an impromptu live singing set from three year old Iris, Christina making her first EVER cricket appearance and scoring a run and taking a wicket, and Mick insisting on a pint!

Thanks to everyone for coming, every player who contributed, with some driving from London for the match, the care homes whom for all this is for, and especially to the cricket club for the use of its facilities once again.
