Care homes across the county regularly compete in inter-homes "Bake-off" competitions in Care Homes, where ingredients are donated, dignitaries are invited, residents get together and cake is eaten!
Our own FaNs Bake-Off
FaNs of all ages and care home residents create their own very competitive baking events!
How, and why, does this FaNs initiative work?
The Care Home Bake-off is a perfect opportunity for residents to get out of their chairs and on their feet, mixing and creating and using their own personal stamp to put their personality on the cakes - the results are AMAZING! The ingredients are provided to the Care Homes free of charge by our community partners and FaNs ambassadors, Tesco and the East of England Co-op.
The wonderful part about the Care Home Bake-off is how enthusiastically the wider community become involved in the event on the day. Local dignitaries, local organisations such as Essex Fire and Rescue, local Schools and pre-schools, the Bake-off sponsors, and individual volunteers FaNs all come together to create a really great atmosphere. It's a really lovely day for everyone involved, not just the residents, but the other community members as well. The Judges always have a difficult decision to make, but they are always keen to get involved. Everyone gets a piece of cake and the day is full of joy and laughter.
The days leading up to the actual Bake-off event have the pleasure of anticipation and a bit of competition involved, with some friendly rivalry between the Care Homes. This FaNs initiative also gives Essex Care Homes, residents and staff, an opportunity to make new friends and meet new people, widening all of their Care Home communities.
